Easy chocolate & Nutella cake. This chocolate cake is moist and fluffy, with a creamy and delicious chocolate & Nutella frosting, and filled with dollops of Nutella! This cake is so easy to make you don’t even have to use an electric mixer!Â
Ingredients
For the Cake:
- 1 cup (240g) Milk
- 1/2 cup (110g) Vegetable oil
- 1/3 cup (30g) Unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3/4 cup (180g) Plain yogurt at room temperature
- 1 cup (200g) Granulated sugar
- 1 tsp (5g) Vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs at room temperature
- 1 1/2 cups (180g) All-purpose flour
- 2 tsp (8g) Baking powder
- 1/2 tsp (3g) Baking soda
- 1/4 tsp (1g) Salt
For the Chocolate Nutella Frosting:
- 200g (About 1 1/3 cups) Semi-sweet chocolate
- 3/4 cup (180g) Heavy Cream at room temperature
- 1 cup (300g) Nutella
For the Filling:
- 3/4 cup of the frosting + 1/3 cup (100g) of Nutella
Instructions
For the Cake:
- Line two 7in (18cm) round cake pans with parchment paper. Set them aside. I don’t recommend using just one pan because the cake will take longer to bake in the center, resulting in dry edges.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) for about 5 minutes before baking the cake.
- Combine the milk and vegetable oil in a large bowl. Microwave for about 1 minute until slightly warm.
- Add the cocoa powder and whisk until completely dissolved.
- Stir in the yogurt, sugar, and vanilla.
- Add the eggs and whisk until well combined.
- Sift the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt over the mixture. Gently whisk until just combined. Don’t overmix the batter.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool at room temperature.
For the Frosting:
- Combine the chocolate and heavy cream in a medium bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
- Allow the ganache to cool at room temperature.
- Add the Nutella and stir until well combined. Use a wire whisk to achieve a smooth and shiny texture.
- Refrigerate for 15-30 minutes if necessary, stirring occasionally until thick and creamy. Don’t refrigerate for too long, or it will be hard to spread.
Assembling the Cake:
- Start by placing the first cake layer on a serving plate. Spread about 3/4 cup of frosting all over the first layer.
- Next, add dollops of Nutella throughout the cake before carefully placing the second layer on top.
- After that, frost the entire cake with the remaining frosting.
Notes
If not consumed on the same day, keep the cake refrigerated and remove it from the fridge about 1 hour before serving.
