Ingredients

For the Custard:

  • 2/3 cup (135g) Granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup (25g) Cornstarch
  • 2 cups (480g) Milk
  • 2 large eggs at room temperature
  • 1 tsp (5g) Vanilla extract
  • 1 Tbsp (19g) Nutella

For the Nutella Sauce:

  • 2/3 cup (200g) Nutella
  • About 4 Tbsp (60g) Milk

For the Cake Layers:

  • About 200-250g of Chocolate cake (homemade or store-bought)

Instructions

For the Custard:

  1. Combine the sugar and cornstarch in a large bowl or pitcher. Add about 1/2 cup of milk and stir until well dissolved. Then, add the remaining milk.
  2. Using a fork, beat the eggs for about one minute. Add the eggs to the milk mixture.
  3. Pour the mixture into a large saucepan, passing it through a sieve to remove any egg membranes.
  4. Stir constantly over medium heat, scraping the sides and bottom of the pan, until it begins to thicken and bubble. Reduce the heat to low and continue stirring for another minute.
  5. Turn off the heat and add the vanilla and a tablespoon of Nutella. Stir until well combined.
  6. Transfer the custard to a large container, cover with plastic wrap in direct contact, and let it cool to room temperature.

For the Nutella Sauce:

  1. Place the Nutella in a medium bowl. Add the milk, one tablespoon at a time, stirring after each addition. The mixture will be very thick when you start to mix but will become smoother and more fluid as you add the milk. Set aside.

For the Cake Layers:

  1. Crumble the cake into a bowl and set aside.

Assembling the Cakes:

  1. Using a piping bag, place some custard at the bottom of small jars that will be used to serve the cakes. Then, make a layer of cake crumbs, pour some Nutella sauce, and cover with custard. Repeat the process until the jars are filled. Finish with Nutella on top and garnish with pieces of Kinder Bueno chocolate.
  2. If you use jars with a 1/2 cup capacity, this recipe will yield approximately 6-7 individual servings.
  3. Keep the cakes in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
