Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp (18g) Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups (480g) Milk, cold or at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup (55g) Cornstarch
  • 2/3 cup (200g) Sweetened condensed milk
  • 150g (about 1 cup) Semi-sweet chocolate

Instructions

    1. Begin by cutting the chocolate into small pieces. Set it aside. 
    2. Grease a 6x6in (15x15cm) glass container with cooking spray or vegetable oil. Don’t use butter, or the mixture will stick after refrigeration.
    3. In a large bowl, place the cocoa powder. Add the milk a bit at a time, stirring after each addition until the cocoa powder is completely dissolved. Then add the remaining milk.
    4. Add the cornstarch to the mixture and stir until completely dissolved.
    5. Finally, incorporate the condensed milk.
    6. Cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly. As soon as it starts to thicken, reduce the heat to low and continue stirring vigorously for about 1 minute to achieve a smooth consistency.
    7. Turn off the heat, add the chopped chocolate, and stir until smooth. The heat of the mixture will melt the chocolate.
    8. Immediately spread the mixture into the prepared container before it starts to firm up. Smooth the top and cover it with plastic wrap in direct contact.
    9. Refrigerate for about 2 to 3 hours.
    10. To serve, run a small knife or spatula around the sides of the container and carefully turn it upside down onto a serving plate.
    11. Trim the sides using a long knife (this step is optional) and sift cocoa powder on top for a decorative touch.
    12. Finally, cut the dessert into squares and serve.
